Strumming to Success: Meet Our Practice Contest Winner, Robbie!

This summer, the halls of homes around the country echoed with the sound of dedicated StrumClub students practicing their hearts out for our Summer Practice Contest. Among the many amazing participants, one young musician strummed his way to the top – meet Robbie, our 7-year-old practice contest winner!

Robbie, with his unwavering dedication, surpassed even his own expectations! “I thought I was going to be in second place,” he says, recounting the minor hiccups he faced when his ukulele broke and during his vacation. But his determination and enthusiasm for music carried him through. “I just really like playing music,” Robbie says earnestly, adding that he often finds himself playing his ukulele, keyboard, drums, and occasionally, his brother’s guitar!

Robbie’s first ukulele was a gift from his grandpa, and though he initially struggled with tuning and strumming, he quickly became a natural. “I feel proud when people like to listen to me,” he shares, recalling the numerous times he’s taken his ukulele on journeys, from school buses to orthodontist visits. With favorites like “Riptide” by Vance Joy and “Seven Nation Army” which holds a special place in his heart as the first song he learned, Robbie has an eclectic taste in music. Robbie’s passion for playing and learning new chords is evident, as he enthusiastically shares, “Bohemian Rhapsody has lots of hard chords and I’m having a lot of fun learning them. F minor is my favorite chord.”

So, what advice does our practice champ have for other budding musicians? “Ask your parents and get a teacher and an instrument,” he says. “And join StrumClub … it’s the best!”
