Congratulations to our March Student of the Month, Cameron! Cameron has been taking guitar lessons at StrumClub for the past six months, and was nominated by his instructor Jimena Fosado for his dedication to his instrument, constant practicing, and great technique!
We talked with Cameron about how he got interested in guitar, his favorite bands, his love for Lego, and more! Check out some interview highlights below, and be sure to watch Cameron play in our full video interview!
What got you interested in guitar and music?
Music has been very important to me. When I was in elementary school, there was only three things I would talk about at recess and one of them had to be music, everyday. I was always the weird one talking about rock and everybody was talking about hip-hop and stuff. I was just like “I don’t know one thing about hip-hop.” I like rock. I love the solos. I love how it makes you feel.
What are your favorite bands?
What are your favorite bands?I love AC/DC. I love some of Guns N’ Roses. I’m a very big Beatles fan. I like Jimi Hendrix. Jimi Henrix “Purple Haze” is probably my favorite song to play.
Tell us about your lessons and what you’ve learned.
I’ve changed a lot since I first started StrumClub and my first couple of lessons. Jimena is very very fun. She makes learning fun compared to other things I’ve tried to learn. I feel better. I feel confident. A lot of times after I’m done, I’m just super super happy if I learned something, or the intro to a song. The first day I learned the intro of “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” After the lesson I ran upstairs and screamed “I’m a rock star” to my dad!
AFTER THE LESSON I RAN UPSTAIRS AND SCREAMED ‘I’M A ROCK STAR’ TO MY DAD!
What other hobbies do you have?
I like basketball and I like football. Another hobby of mine, I really really do enjoy Lego. I just bought this one three days ago!
What was it like to play in the recital?
I think when I played at the recital, that was the best I’ve ever played. I didn’t even notice that you guys were there until I was done. I knew I was going to play it, but then when I started, I didn’t even know you were there. It felt good. It felt great. Like Barry Sanders, in the zone!
What would you say to someone thinking about playing guitar?
Once you learn one riff or one song you just play it over and over and over and you love it. Once you know things, it’s like “why didn’t I start sooner?” I want to keep going until the doctor recommends that I stop. I don’t think that’s going to happen. I’m going to be like “nope, I’m still playing!”
